Why would any landlord allow this in a renter's lease? There is zero upside and considerable liability.

@Blabby: The last lease I signed (as a renter, in July of 2014) has several clauses explicitly forbidding this type of behavior. I imagine that those types of clauses will just become standard boilerplate for most leases.

One of the wrinkles I reported in October: There's nothing to stop a landlord from designating a unit or two in a building as short-term-eligible and raising rents accordingly, to capture a portion of that "sharing economy" cash flow.

If 93% of short-term units are without permits then either owners are smart enough to ensure their properties are safe or the city is due for a glut of AirBNB injuries.

Wow, good grief Charlie!
Oregon ethics laws, nepotism and cronyism aside. This seems to be very punitive toward each and every renter living inside the city of Portland, Oregon. The deal also appears to be too cozy for your friends and family members. Mayor Hale's daughter, Katelyn, is dating Airbnb’s chief mapmaker. The chief mapmaker is Airbnb employee #3.
Beware of this Mayor, and make sure to register to vote in 2016!
