Damn good IA.

Yeah, nothing like being born a member of an affluent class during the pinnacle of an empire to make you realize what great choices you made!

2
Social security isn't going anywhere. A 3% payroll tax increase, and it'll be good FOREVER.

Maybe your options would be better if you didn't ignorantly repeat elite propaganda designed to screw you over?
3
The boomers have proven themselves to be the worst, most selfish and greedy generation since the US was established. Sadly the only solution is to wait until they die off.
4
IA is of course right, but it's all relative. many people are getting screwed in ways IA (and I) can't understand. What are you doing about that?

Maybe it was this asswipe's good choices that led to their ability to retire... maybe not.

When in doubt, wax poetic about food for worms.

The crazy comments are hilarious. Which Baby Boomers are you referring to? The huge group in poverty for most of their lives? The ones who fought for economic, racial and gender equality with no help form the lazy ass, complacent generation behind them? (Thank goodness for the Millennials! Hopefully they will eat Gen X on their way up the food chain.) Your ability to stereotype nearly 80 million people is stunning - your naivete and susceptibility to media fabrications are laughable. Gen X - the second silent generation. What a crashing bunch of complaining babies.

Exactly, jamdox. "Social security...won't be there for us" is far-right brainwashing meant to soften up the population for future attacks on the system. It'll be there.

The rub is that you have to get jobs that pay into Social Security, and work them over the course of many years, to build up much. Low-wage-part-time doesn't build up much, off-the-books work not at all. Many *are* getting screwed in this economy, but there are also choices that can and should be made. Supporting, and not bad-mouthing Social Security, is one of them.
7
Todd perhaps you should read the recent GAO (I believe) report showing pay-outs have now surpassed pay-ins.

this guy needs prozac.
check out www.babyboomerstories.com for a realistic, objective viewpoint from a babyboomer who hopes he doesn't have to take social security until he is 70.

Just checking here: did the anonie actually stereotype "80 million people" or whatever number you threw out there? Because I'm pretty sure this one was written in response to one particular person who has what sounds like a really annnoying habit.

I,A should be grateful that the bastard is retiring. A lot of the boomers just stay alive and keep sitting on jobs that someone younger could move into if they would just retire already! And yes, remind the boomers that they will be worm food soon.

I remember my early teens kicking around Berkeley listening to The Who sing about my generation; "People all try to put us down, just because we get around, things they do seem awful cold, I hope I die before I get old..." Well fuck, that ish sounded all romantic when becoming worm food was something far into the future but now, I don't think so...Still that was my generation talking about the previous generation and now it's funny to read the comments that this generation is saying about my generation, the Boomers. We WILL be worm food soon, there is no doubt about that, but it's funny how time slips away and before you know it there will be another generation on the scene and you...all too soon you will be getting dashed with a pinch of seasoning to become a tasty morsel for another generation of worms...It's a very short walk from the cradle to the grave...And as for you crying like a little b _ _ _ h about social security, it's not our fault that it won't be there when you get old enough to start smelling like worm food; place the blame where it should go, write your congressman or something. Boomers paid into social security so it's only right that we get some of that money back. And then I read another little p_ _ _ _y crying about we're holding on to the jobs too long...You straight ID10T, you're growing up in the beginning of the information age and generating income has NEVER been easier in history of the world. You scare me...Stop spending so much time writing idiot commentary and discover what's available to you...You don't need a job when it is so simple to start your own business now. But you wouldn't know about that because you're here spilling all that stored up stupidy instead of at a site where you can actually learn something...

And retiring at 62 doesn't seem like much to brag about, either. She didn't really make it out early...

Please wait...
