You have a pet, apply to rent a place that allows pets, if the place you are trying to move into has a no pets policy then you are just making an ass out of yourself.
2
Econoline- that's not the problem. I,A feels, and I am assuming here, that they should be accommodated regardless of policy because it is an animal that provides emotional support. Which kinda begs the question- Isn't this what all pets do for their owners? Also, I feel that if you are so emotionally addled that you have to drag your Yorkie through the produce aisle then maybe your problems are bigger than a pet can solve.

@iceprez I understand his contention that he has a "service animal" and not a pet, but he doesn't, he has a pet and it sounds like this place has a pretty clear no pets policy, if he drug the apartment manager of a place that clearly advertises no pets through the whole process of showing the unit etc. only to announce at the end that he in fact does have a pet then he wasted that persons time and he is an ass. This kind of thing is the reason why places charge an "application fee". There are places that will let you have a 25 pound dog as a pet, they may cost a bit more because they have to repair the extra damage in wear and tear that a dog will exact on a place but this guy should just pick one of those places and apply to live there rather than screwing over some apartment manager for no reason.

I watched some hipster's "service chihuahua" piss all over the floor at Safeway the other day.

Fucking disgusting.

If they won't rent to a blind person with a guide dog they are definitely not going to rent to someone with a dog that "makes them feel less stressful".

Econoline- I agree with you 100%, I think this is a pet as well. For the record, these are the only people with disabilities that should have service animals-

1. The blind/deaf
2. The wheelchair-bound
3. Anyone on anti-seizure medication

Anybody that completes drug and alcohol rehab is advised to wait at least 12 months before caring for a pet. Why? Because they have proven that they can barely take care of themselves, much less an animal. Dogs tend to mirror their owners emotionally. If you are a neurotic mess your animal will likely turn out the same. To me ( and I admit that it's a bit hyperbolic) using your untrained pet as a service animal for your emotional needs is a little abusive to both the animal and the system.

A *certified* ESA can be used for soldiers w/PTSD, sexual assualt victims/survivors, ppl who have been seizure free for 2yrs but still want the support and etc. A truly certified ESA does have to pass behavior tests for public safety reasons. If this is truly an ESA, I would say Fair Housing Counciling would be the best bet.
9
HFR- Fair enough. Personally I do not agree with ESA's, but fair enough.

Until today, I'd never heard of "emotional support animals." A quick search turned up the fact that ESAs are, in fact, treated as "service animals" under the Fair Housing Act. This surprised me. I recommend following up with the links provided above by "Hope This Helps."

The guy had the dog for 6 years then got it declared a "service animal" so he could sneak it into places that it should not be. Reminds me of the guy with the "service animal" that ate another woman's "service animal" on trimet. If you mess with the apartment manager over this I hope your dog dies.

I THINK YOU'RE MISTAKEN. THIS IS A PLACE FOR BITCHING ABOUT BIKES AND THE DATING/SOCIAL/HYGIENE ISSUES OF THE OPPOSITE SEX.

YOU'RE LOOKING FOR WILLAMETTE WEEK.

Looks like D&W needs an ESH. Emotional Support Hooker.

Snake Pliskin's eye-patch I need to find a fucking hobby. Anyone know where else I can go to read more Todd Mecklem funny stuff? He just gets me.

Anon, I see that, like me, you get all of your legal advice from LAWYERS (Lazy And Wasted Yahoos Eternally Reading Stevehumphreysshittylittlerantblog).

Emotional support animal? Sounds like a bullshit work-around to no pet housing. When it comes straight down to it, any pet is a tool to fill some emotional void, or a physical one...

Guess I'll be getting a prescription for for my Guinea Pig, STAT.
17
It doesn't "beg the question" it "raises the question". Sorry just a little pet peeve of mine...
18
Suck it up and pay the pet deposit. yeesh!!

I think that 90% of people bringing dogs into stores and onto transit, without an obvious disability, are full of shit. Like all the people I see pull into disabled spots and bound out of the car and prance off to wherever they are going.

Please wait...
