You just called yourself out, so now you have to go again. You can't be not sure, and then, not check to make sure. if you do that; you might as well make your safe word 'sissy lala.'
Usually some may have more sensitivity than another. Having had this type of experience, that makes it extremely tough for you to sincerely enjoy another massage. First things first is make sure that they are certified in massage therapy. These schools very much so educate their students on the gravity of being effective and not defective especially when working around the spinal chord.
from a massage therapist: we have absolutely no way to determine how "deep" is from one person to the next. it is your responsibility as a client to communicate to us how the pressure is- thats why we specifically ask "how is the pressure". your therapist should've explained to you the correct way to measure pressure. Deep Pressure is defined as a 7.5 "hurts so good" on a 1-10 pain scale. The moment you cross over 7.5 you should be saying too much! we will happily adjust we just have no way of knowing unless you speak up.
Hopefully this helps!
