I'm really surprised too that the acts at an open mike night hosted in the "basement of a friend of a friend" might be somewhat lacking in quality...
2
Help me understand...is it hell because the acts are bad, or because the people in attendance aren't paying attention to the bad acts? This rant is sort of like the old joke: "The food was awful and the portions were SO small!"
3
Deezus solid start.

I just wish there was an open mic for East coast run-on-sentence artists with anger issues in this town.

That voice needs to be heard.

I went to an open mike at the Hotel Utah in San Francisco. The entire audience of about one hundred was comprised of musicians, all waiting for their turn to play two numbers. Marc Biedermann of The Ghost Kings and Blind Illusion was the only act to get a standing ovation, and got to play three tunes.

"Then, like at any event anywhere, the alcohol became more important than the performers."

Fixed.
7
Wait a second, the basement has a basement? Tell us more about this this miraculous feat of architectural wonder!

I think anon is just pissed that their clearly superior and attention worthy act didn't get the admiration they wanted. Don't try to blame it on the alcohol or "drugs" ( who goes to an open mic to take drugs? ) Your act sucked. You suck. Learn 3 chords and try to not be so much of a downer next time.

Everybody's anger fueled East Coast Cynicism flares up when they get stuck sitting in the corner of their friend's friend's basement and nobody offers them any drugs.

Here on the West Coast we like to call that Righteous Indignation.

I'm awarding you a trophy for this rant.
12
I dont know if i read this whole rant, because these drugs make me wanna dance!!
13
Coke is still popular?......I thought it had died its third death in terms of popularity
14
No, actually, you're the asshole for thinking people should not "want to dance more than internalize some of the art and narrative of people who are inspired and interested in sharing those things."

You're an obnoxious snob that everyone else doesn't give a flying shit about. Pack your whiny as up and go back to the east coast if you don't like it, fuckwad.

I don't like karaoke; that's why I don't go to karaoke establishments. So since you dislike open mic nights; then why even bother to go? *sigh*

Please wait...
