I agree. A Trader Joe's or some other form of grocery store with a healthful lean would be great in that area. The only grocery store near there is the very limited, very pricey Co-Op, who SURPRISE also pushed back against Trader Joe's.

Somebody better trace the paper trail on those new dubs on the church minister's Caddy and see if it leads right back to New Seasons.

Sooo ... this is actually The Racism Parade. Seriously, white people, shut the fuck up about this.

There was a lot of opposition to the 7-11 on MLK. If you were actually involved in NE neighborhood issues, you'd know that.
Besides, TJ's is the Walmart of natural foods. They undercut the prices of independent grocers, co-ops, and other chains by purchasing massive quantities and bringing you the same food but much less fresh, wrapped in more layers of plastic, and trucked more and more miles. How awful for you. Now you have to go all the way to Hollywood to buy a shrink-wrapped red pepper on a styrofoam tray and chocolate covered crystallized ginger. How dare people who have lived in the neighborhood for generations ruin your tidy little life by denying you easier access to a Trader Joe's. How thoughtless of them to consider their own community before your convenience.

Dear Pull Out:

It's a pity your daddy didn't!

Seriously, I wouldn't care about that parcel except it was owned by the tax payers and given away by the development whores at the PDC for 20% of the market price. And, the development was not what had been promised years ago.

Trader Joe's is great for cheap goat cheese, but it is not affordable for working class families.

So, being of the Caucasian persuasion myself, I have to say that you should take of the yuppy db glasses and look at this fiasco through the lens of the taxpayer or someone who has raised a family in that neighborhood.

PS if you are a carless bike baby in a tiny 1000 studio
who is distraught because you have to bike in the
rain for wasabi peas while that 2 million could have funded a closer source for said wasabi peas- extra whining points.

Oh Please! I have lived in this neighborhood since 1999 and on Sumner St for 7 years. I work in mental health and can only wish to be a yuppie. I have a family and I ride the bus, I hear what people in this community want and it's JOBS. That's what everyone is talking about. I was a big part of the 7-11 opposition, calling their CEO, calling our mayor, making signs for my neighborhood, hosting meetings.....And NO there really wasn't a big opposition to 7-11 and yes it takes business away from long time black-owned corner stores. How many people does the 7-11 employ, about 5? Jobs are what this neighborhood needs, if its selling wasabi flavored peas, its better than an empty lot with no jobs!
