Might as well stick the fork in your own eye, for all the good your vote is going to do in addressing your issues with the Water Bureau.
2
No one let you rant. You just kind of showed up. If it were up to us, you would have been promptly shown the door.
3
I'm with you IA.
4
Wow, if 35,000 gallons of wasted water got you tweaked, I better not remind you that it was actually 38 MILLION gallons. And your ignorant ass wants to punish City Hall by handing the keys to Bull Run to a bunch of corporate shills who won't lower YOUR bill by a penny, just so they can get cheap water. Cool story, bro!
5
1. You won't be saving any money.

2. You'll be drinking PEE WATER!
6
According to the Oregonian only 2-3 million was dumped, the other 35 million was diverted to another reservoir. Of course they're not going to dump it all, it was just a PR thing to save face. We're all gonna be sipping down that guy's pee.
7
Say, europhet, can you give me the names of these shills?
Oh wait, they are going to be ELECTED by the people here, right?
Maybe it won't lower the bills, but maybe they can.
They just don't have to spend money on Loos, water houses, or property for the Rose Festival.
8
I'm not sure what will happen under the water district, but I know that my rates WILL go up by 5% this year under the City, just like last year, and the year before that, and the year before that....
9
Lots of ignorance on here:

1. - The new water commission DOES NOT guarantee lower water rates.

2. - Our water rates are not high because we dumped some pee-water for feel-good PR.

3. It is a fair assumption that the new water board would be filled with corporate shills, as the language in the bill prohibits anyone with a current job from joining. That means we will be stuck with independently wealthy and/or retired board members.
10
I hope the dude that whizzed in the reservoir didn't ingest a lot of flouride. That would really piss off the Portlanders.
11
Change for the sake of change is not always for the better.
12
Being indignant is fine just don't be stupid. Educate yourself. The Willamette Week had a good story on this ballot measure. I too, hate how high our water rates are but they are lower than both Seattle and S.F. Don't be a reactionary.
13
Oregon's DEQ estimates that 60% of household water use ends up in the sewer system as waste water. What would your water bill look like if you were charged 60% instead of ~95% of your water use as a sewer charge?

The bogus Superfund charge is just more paying for the big pipe and fun projects for overpaid bureaucrats -- some of who have second jobs on top of their cushy $75k a year BES jobs. This charge is simply another offsite sewer charge. It is skirting legality very closely. It is a double charge to the tune of millions.

The joke is on Portland already. I have worked for four water districts and none of them would dream of wasting money and resources like City of Portland does routinely.
14
The big pipe was not a "fun project for overpaid bureaucrats". It stopped raw sewage from spilling into the Willamette and had to be done as a result of violating the Clean Water Act.
15
No, you're right there Stretch, but the Loo's, water-house and Rose Parade property certainly was.
Not to mention any other sort of discretionary spending they could easily tuck into our water bills.
16
I didn't say it was, but drilling down into the reports that seems to be where both the Portland Harbor Superfund money, and our rate increases are going - still.

And another thing, which is it with the City. Before they were acknowledging some misuse of funds, and saying it was Randy and Sam, now they are appealing it. My guess is they figured voters are thoroughly snowed by the "Corporate Takeover" characterization and the same ol, same ol is polling strong.
17
this I,A rates a 2 on a 1-10 scale

Sounds like a threat of a boycott is what they need. Half and half on this subject it appears. Is there anything that could lower the cost to the consumer or is it we have to accept it will never change? Majority rules so just like the marijuana on the ballots, it's up to the people. Majority rules.

Ahhhh. The good Colonel is back to 1's and 2's... I thought the seventh seal had been broken after that 8 rating a few posts back.

All is well.
20
^Fuck that colonel. Fuck him in his eye with a sharp boot..

Our water bills are so high because someone in the local gov fucked up at some point. Now i pay 3 times more here for water (where it is very abundant) than I did in the Mojave Desert. Local Gov's just don't have the mental capacity to solve problems here. Just look at the fact that any random joker can piss in the water supply at any time. The solution is to drain it and blame the pisser, until the next pisser comes along. Fucking brilliance.

Please wait...
