Are you aware that this rant comes across sounding racist? I think he had you properly pegged.

You are right on and maybe the truth hurts; and yes, some are going to spin that as racist. Who cares? I know your just a women that is sick of the situation that comes your way.

Black,White or whatever just cool it when you assume getting nasty is what women want.
4
I'm gonna try the "yo sweet thing I need a latte and your digits" line to see if it works.
5
What hits me is the "I need" part. One can "need" a latte (to wake up for instance), but "I need" digits. Doesn't fit me well. I'm gonna try it anyways.
6
"Your" is possessive and indicates ownership. "You're" is a contraction, to be used when you would use "you are". You people learned this shit in third grade, come on now.
7
This rant is openly, unapologetically biased against 82nd Ave, and that's streetist
8
I learned it when I was like 6, but it's phonetic, and I copy 'n' pasted it.
9
It's phonetic because it's between the " thingies. Which denominates speech.
10
Aw for fuck-sakes Leaky, give it a rest!
11
I feel like making one guy's bad behavior a reflection of his whole race pretty much the definition of racism. Gonna have to back pedal on a recent comment and conclude once again that yes, all baristas are fucking retarded.
12
That line only works in Old Town.
13
All that's missing from this submission is the opening sentence "I'm not racist, but.."
14
So I say" if you can not conduct yourself in a civil manner leave now"
You sound like a droid that makes white people look bad.
15
I did not write this one either.
16
As a white woman or a black woman you're not forced to tolerate sexist behavior. It does seem like some of our PC lilly common-taters want you to roll over for the digit dude. "You go girl". The first word out of the offended gentleman's trench hole is "F you you racist punk rock ho". So who's the biggot? You are wasting your breath telling this idiot on this rant how to behave and you're going to get little support on this site. A couple months ago an Asian lady was complaining about being stereotyped and you should have seen all the ethnic slurs they hit her with (the victim). Now you come in (the victim) of obvious sexist badgering and they pile on you for being a racist. See what I mean? They stack the deck both ways. They're just like a bullshit corporate HR dept. You'll get a much better answer from "Dear Abbey".
17
The dude is sexist, and while there is nothing wrong with your refusal of him, the rest of your rant is totally racist, so.... maybe next time stick to presenting the facts without all of the tokenizing opinions? Your behavior is reflecting poorly upon the entire white race, after all.
18
I think you handled this wrong. You should have smiled and made the fucking latte, and dealt with the digit request like a non-racist.

"Here's you're latte!"
"So how do I call you later?"
"You already know where I work!"
"What time are you off, then?"
"I can't be sure, they might make me stay till close!"

Is it really so hard to deflect a chauvinist? And all without that snooty "if you can not conduct yourself in a civil manner leave now" shit. You basically said that his social norms are uncivilized, and threatened to kick him out. Seems a little Jim Crow to me.
19
Just listen to all the make believe freedom riders. A Jim Crow comparison would be digit dude getting hot latte thrown in his face while three or four Neanderthals are standing around shoving him and calling him and his family every foul name in the book. NOT just you telling him to be civil or leave. It's later you express your freedom of thought and speech by coming to this Roman Arena and of course get the "thumbs down" from some of these cyber psychologists who tell you how you should talk act and do your job. They would like to help you more, but they're busy now, clicking back to their previous blessings checking on their likes and dislikes.
20
If you are close enough to a black person to talk, then you are close enough to steal their air. Racist.
21
Since when does asking a woman for her number qualify as sexist behavior, medicated mariner? Is it sexist because of the WAY he asked? If that's the belief then, yeah, she made a federal case out of his social norm and came across as a racist. Sorry they ain't hanging folks anymore, but racism has gotten more subtle since civil rights.

Do you even know what passes for courtship among youth today? It's pretty brazen shit, so " sweet thing, let me get those digits", doesn't sound that out of pocket if you ask around. The righteous overreaction is what smells here and digits guy caught a whiff and called em like he sees em.
22
Snickerdoodle you definitively weren't around a big city in the 90's and completely were not in a black community in said era.
23
Nah, both parties handled that stupidly.
24
I-Prez,if you are close enough to anyone to steal their air, and they talk trash to you when you are clearly not in the mood,is called-Sexist. At least she is not passive aggressive when she felt her space was being invaded. Not to mention that he called out she was a "racist punk rock Ho". She is just saying Hell No to the No. How much shit does a woman have to take. He just set her up,she told us what happened, and does not need to apologize to the dick.
25
Ice Prez, ranter was having her space invaded. She did not want to encourage this guy. She let it be known as she was not passive aggressive. She couldn't win for losing when she came here. So he is not racist calling her a 'punk rock Ho"?
She should have never mentioned black, white but the point is she had had enough of the dick before he called her out and He made it racist. Two sides to this story maybe. Don't go looking under the rocks when your looking to call racist so quickly. Believe me this is not personal to you, because most here agree with you.
I am off this subject and want to move on. I sometimes see things different.
26
Leaky, please. Qualify yourself if you're desperate to prove a point, ( assuming you have a point is generous, you seem to have trouble comprehending english and grammar) but don't disqualify me because you don't like mine. You know nothing about me or where I was at at any point in time.
27
I accidentally posted two comments back to back and they are neither worth reading because I was out of control.
28
I once lamented to a dear, young, beautiful, friend, "If only I were half my age, better looking, less obnoxious, and rich." To which she replied without batting an eye, "Oh Fred, you're not always obnoxious."
29
Look men, snickerdoodle, shut up about the grammar and spelling is a joke you're not in.

And I'm not explaining shit to you, I'll let other Portlanders "explain it" to you in real life so you don't forget.

And quit bitching to me. "but don't disqualify me because you don't like mine" na na na na

"You know nothing about me or where I was" nanana nana na

Who the fuck was disqualifying you?

So not being around a big city in the 90's along having not taken part of a black community in the 90's is disqualifying?

If you need some kind of validation go to yer mommy's, not me.
30
Seentoomuch- I was being sarcastic, take it easy.
31
^ICE-PREZ-your absolutely right, I was so caught up on the topic, I lost my sense of humor for a moment. Sometimes I can be a real ass !!!!!!
32
48hrs since this rant was posted, and I still have no clue what to do with it.
33
Cudo's Leaky 2.0. I mean what the hell, You, me, Seentomuch, Ice Prez,we shouldn't be held responsible for our social norms either. Wasn't Norm Social the first dude to call a lady a frickin racist punk rock "ho", then developed quite a career on lecturing in campus psychology classes?
34
It's easy.

Saying: "yo sweet thing I need a latte and your digits" it's totally unsmooth, sounds like a dork, first of all. And to think that you have to be black (to talk like that- Yo, blah bla blah, urbanism) or that all black people talk like that is racist all the way. I don't find harmful the urbanism way of talking of black people.

Second to presume that just because you're black or that a black thing is to throw around gang signs, is racist too. It has nothing to do with color.

I'm pretty sure that leaders of the black community, rappers, entertainers, highly successful tv hosts, don't want to feel and transmit to their audience that Black America is confined to act that way.

It has been a struggle even inside the community, being strong and most visible on comedy acts in the 90's. Chris Rock for example. It's a very thin line. For "white" people mostly.

The yo sweet thing is like a comedy skit (I need a latte and your digits) - I need - wtf.

I'm pretty sure gangsters of all colors don't want boys throwing around gang signs either, or feel like they are posers, or they are just are using them, for the cut board background. Gangsters live that life, it's what they do, fine. But it's not confined to a color of skin.

So maybe that's besides the point of doodle, but "Since when does asking a woman for her number qualify as sexist behavior"

The keyword -I need- . Like the girl is some kind of dispenser. I need your digits and a latte. Fuck off.

And yes doodle, I get what your saying how your saying it perfectly, and I don't have to read it twice. Don't assume things, dude.
35
^leaky that is so right. Wish I could have said it better.
36
Thanks seentomuch.
37
@ leaky. I apologize for the personal barb. There are few topics I don't just make a smart ass quip about and then move on. My stepbrother and other members of my extended family are African American, so I feel strongly about the issue. Especially because I've seen it first hand so often when we are out and about our business.

Interpretation shades opinion and you see "needing the digits" as an indication that dude is gross and being gross all over her space. Most likely he was. I see the " white women having to tolerate shitty behavior from men cuz they're black" and think that this lady has got her victim pants on and the black man is the culprit ie, Fox News racism. Also gross.

Also, even though the 90's are not relevant to anything I wrote, I was in prison in Memphis Tennessee in the 90's. Black? Very. Community? In a super violent and crazy way, yes. Take your own advice and don't assume you know things just cuz you're the smartest guy in the room.
38
Dude, I don't think you got nothing about the point, as you expressed in your second paragraph. The word gross is as far as from what she and I wrote and the concept in ideas that you just hit a home run.

I produce hip hop so I feel very strongly about it too.

The 90's were everything to what you wrote. Black people started finally popping out in all media (mostly main stream media) as baseball heroes, frikin' good Hollywood Stars Actors, role models for everybody, independent from other races, etc. I think the black community inside a prison for better or for worst (for as any "racial group" inside including the guards) it wasn't similar to what was happening outside. Or what is happening outside.

You mistakenly point fingers too much. (Ie the Fox pants racism) without understanding. Are you sure you understood what I wrote explaining the ranters indignation? Cuz that is majority of the black community way of viewing it!

Also, if you weren't inside the black community whereas you where (prison, the university of life, whatevs) you don't get what I'm saying.

What I see is genuine concern for the improvement of this everything as a whole, not " white women having to tolerate shitty behavior from men cuz they're black". WTF.

Maybe someone can dwell on that paragraph. Where's the racism now?
39
Now that was a great closing statement. Thanks Leaky.
40
@ Leaky & seentomuch...

Your incoherent babbling is annoying and useless. Either meet up and blow each other, or drop it. Geez!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please wait...
