"Well guess what this does, my close-in Portlandian renter?"

Don't have to guess, we already read a rant to the same effect a couple of weeks ago.

Maybe all these $1800/month 1-bedrooms being built can be rented out as hotel rooms when the market flatlines.

Personally I support anything that increases the cost of living here. It pushes the Justice Squad further out to Gresham and only allows for other wealthy types to live around me. As far as I'm concerned, the prices aren't going up fast enough. Let's be honest, 1900/mo is still pretty cheap compared to other cities. If you're over the age of 25 and you're living with 4 other roommates, you failed at life.

The rent on my house hasn't gone up in over ten years 'cause my landlord is family. Perks of not being a transplant. Thanks for your concern, though!
5
It would probably ruin the city if they built more apartments though, so don't do that. I don't want anyone to live here who isn't from the area already.

Mark the date!!!! July 21, 2014: Assisse pens his own admission to being a total elitist asshole.

I officially feel comfortable saying that I hope he gets hit by a bus, or better yet, by the MAX.

Airbnb is a slight cause to the rental increases -- I'm afraid demand, generally speaking, is the main cause. But even "demand" isn't a fair reason to raise the rent, especially when talking about existing, long-term tenants/inner Portland residents. You want fairness, I,A? Tell Charlie Hales you want rent control. Believe me, start screaming for it now -- Seattle still doesn't have it and their rent is already astronomically way too high.

It's not that I disagree with you Assisse, Jizz-Mopper - Jerkoff Alliance, it's that I find you to be vile, loathesome, and destestable.
10
I would be more sympathetic if it wasn't for all the vacant lot preservationists who think building apartment buildings (and often any condos/townhomes/skinny houses as well) is an evil menace that will destroy our way of life, and yet are renters.

"Are you enjoying what might be the last vestiges of Portland affordability in your rented house, apartment, or room?"

Last vestiges? When was this written, 2005?

The place we lived before coming to Portland for medical reasons, to be near one of the best hospitals in the country.
Portland VA and OHSU.

We left behind, high cost of living-We paid $1400 for rent, to be safe. We had to pay utilities. It was a place seldom people lived, but many visited. Your comments woke me up, and were helpful to know when our lease runs out.

This is a wonderful experience moving to Portland. We will never leave. People are wonderful and the bad ones I don't
want to get to know. We have family here so that helps a whole lot.

I hate to burst all this fear mongering, but there are already 100s of non owner occupied and room rentals in Portland that have been in operation for years, they just aren't legal. Go search airbnb and VRBO yourself and you will see.

Wow, FWTBT, your comments are the epitome of passive aggressive.
