Dude, I had a very similar moment with a driver! But then they started accelerating before I was out from in front of their car, and I kind of wished they would've just ignored my right of way like every other driver does!
Weird! I also had a historic Portland moment as well! Only had 3 distracted drivers endanger my life on my 22 mile work commute today! That's a solid 66% reduction in my daily almost-getting-killed-by-inattentive-drivers interactions!
When I'm on my bike, I stop at stop signs. Living here made me do it. Living here made me a lot of things, notably a) old and b) cranky. But yeah, I stop and it freaks out everyone around me. I got a big old sarcastic / passive aggressive "THANK YOU" from some dogwalking lady in Ladd's the other week after I waved her through; all I gotta say is take what you can get, hon, 'cause I'm one douchey rules-abiding man in a fucking flood of fairweather cyclists and goddamn it I'm liable to change my mind at any fucking moment now, $240 tickets be damned
Historic Moment#2: Cyclist has front and rear lights operational at night.
Historic Moment#3: Cyclist comes to complete stop at light/sign.
Historic Moment#4: Cyclist signals before initiating turn.
So on and so forth. We need to get some good ol' fashioned bad service rants up in hmeeere.
Good job, people!
