"in the midst of a homelessness crisis"

What exactly makes this a crisis? When did it start, and what's the measurement for ending the crisis?

Do any of the writers or editors of the Mercury live next to.any of these homeless camps? Do any of you have children? Have you ever had to answer "Why is that man screaming at us daddy?" I'm guessing probably not. It's nice to live in seclusion and pass judgement on everyone else.

I think if the city could better regulate these sanctioned camps, people might be more inclined to have an open mind.

Forgotten Realms on N. Kerby: Fire broke out and damaged a neighboring home (which the city has yet to pay for), rats, garbage, fights, overcrowding.
Dignity Village: It's like an apocalyptic scene passing through the gates... long term homeless people, hoarding junk, feeding feral cats/other animals, garbage issues, RV's lining the street in front.

And what about the city's One Point of Contact website? You know, the site dedicated for reporting problems with homeless camps? Try getting someone to call or email you back. There is ZERO communication from the city... you fill out the form, wait, wait, wait, wait... continue waiting... fill out another form, email, call.... wait, wait, wait, wait... finally give up.

I wish the media (especially the Mercury) would portray both sides of this issue... instead of labeling anyone who asks questions or has concerns regarding countless homeless camps throughout the city as uncaring and unthinking individuals.
