After announcing last week that Erykah Badu (AKA the "Godmother of Soul") will headline this year's Soul'd Out Music Festival, the full lineup was released today and tickets are currently on sale. National acts include the Fugees' Wyclef Jean, BJ the Chicago Kid (who first played the fest in 2016), Chicago's Noname, and De La Soul.
The lineup features an array artists from a multitude of backgrounds—there'll be Jamaican reggae from Morgan Heritage, Cuba's Jesús Alemañy (of ¡Cubanismo! Orchestra), Toumani Diabatie's kora music from West Africa, the Rebirth Brass Band from New Orleans, and many more. As usual, there's also a good handful of local stars to catch this year. Rapper/producer Fountaine will open for that Noname/BJ the Chicago Kid show; Mic Capes is on there too, plus Mic Crenshaw and Libretto, soul singer Rich Hunter, and jazz drummer Mel Brown.
With previous lineups boasting stars like Solange, Anderson .Paak, Ice Cube, and Lauryn Hill, each year Soul'd Out always curates at least a couple un-fucking-missable shows. 2018 is no different.
