Thank you again, Katie Herzog, for reminding all of us that mass hysteria is a basic byproduct of the internet. It needs saying.
In fact, makes you wonder what Katie would have said about various Portland-based pieces of misguided bullshit that staff writers on the Merc totally signed off on, like "WHITE LADIES MAKING BURRITOES=HATE CRIME!" from last year.
Remember that? I'll refresh: so they reprinted a story from the Willy, which had led lots of people to lose their shit about absolutely nothing. The Merc had one of their few black writers handle this, and her rhetoric was so ignorant and hateful, plenty of people noticed and said so.
As usual, they didn't interact with the community of readers, but did quietly fire the black lady, who of course took to Twitter, saying, "The white man wins again." Damn. Why isn't the Merc like the Stranger?
