We all knew this day would come.
It looks like the Goodman parking magnate family has filed plans to turn the the 900 block of SW Washington into a 33-story tower that could be used for offices, apartments, and hotel rooms.
If those plans are seen to fruition, that would leave several food cart owners in the Alder pod on 10th and Washington scrambling to find a new home.
According to The Oregonian’s report today—with an assist from Portland Next’s ace development tracking ace, Iain MacKenzie—the potential development could reach as high as 300-plus feet into the air and as low as four stories into the ground. (So at least the new development is getting parking?)
The O’s story included this line, which makes you wonder when—and even if—the development will ever transpire: “The plans indicate a plan in its early stages that could change, or which might not occur at all.”
Last November, we reported that similar plans were in place a block away for the possible construction of an 11-story 179-room hotel to be run by the Minneapolis-based Graves Hospitality.
The lots the Goodman family hold have long been planned for future developments, and the food cart pod idea was always meant to be a temporary fix following the national and global financial meltdown back in 2007 and 2008 created by the world’s very best bankers. Stay tuned for more updates.
