Stay up to date on Portland news and politics. Looking for fun? Here are the best Things to Do in Portland today.
Good morning, Portland! It's going to be mostly cloudy today with a high of 67, making it the last "cool" day for a while. (It's going to be 95 degrees next week, what is happening). Here's some news to start your day:
Kenton Approves: Kenton Women's Village has been given an informal green light from the Kenton Neighborhood Association (with a 119-3 vote) to stay in the neighborhood past its June 10 one year mark. The small pod village for women transitioning out of homelessness has helped 14 women find permanent housing in the past year.
A Plan to Make a Plan: Portland City Council cautiously voted yesterday to start creating a policy on how to handle the thousands of unreinforced masonry buildings (URMs) across the city that will crumble at the first sign of an earthquake. We'll have more on that later today.
The resolution passes unanimously, but everyone on council has some concerns still. No immediate policy but the wheels are turning towards that and we can expect the first policy in about 3 months.

Troubled Waters: A number of environmental and fishing groups are suing the Oregon Department of Forestry, claiming the agency's intense logging and road-building practices have damaged the habitat for coho salmon (a species protected under the Endangered Species Act).
But, the Emails: Remember when we all hated James Comey for mentioning he was investigating Hilary Clinton's emails days before the 201 presidential election? Don't let rebellious post-election curtain-hiding Comey blur your memory. The US Inspector General will release a final report on the way Comey's email investigation was handled today.
Oh, It's Donald Trump's Birthday: He's 72. Here are some of the presents he's received:

Break it Up: Is California going to split into three states? Probably not! But a Silicon Valley tech bro has wrangled up enough signatures to take the issue to a vote on the state's November ballot. This is the moment where I out myself as a Northern Californian and say I wouldn't be opposed to this decision. (I'm from a tiny town six hours north of the Bay Area thank you very much).
I Truly Don't Know What's Going On Here: Colonel Sanders is giving the commencement speech for the Art Institute of Portland's graduation ceremony Friday.
