Another bad week for Burgerville.

Before we get into it, a PSA courtesy of the Oregonian: If you used a credit or debit card to pay for anything at Burgerville from September of last year till now, Eastern European hackers might have your banking info, so keep any eye on those monthly statements. Or you can always get in on the suing action, according to Willamette Week following O’s original story.

Okay, on to the news!

Every year, we throwBurger Week at you. Pizza Week’s a thing, too. Well, the Mercury’s Veg Week is right around the corner. That means plenty of vegan mac and cheese, jackfruit tortas, and Buffalo cauliflower wings. The weeklong event kicks off October 15 and comes to a close on the 20th, so get out there and raise a glass to yourself, a happy, healthy eater. That said, we still like to get our meat on, as you can tell by our Wild About Game wrap up, in which our food critic abused her liver to let you know all about the event’s many dishes composed around rabbit, partridge, duck, and Hawaiian venison. In her still digesting words, “Worth it.”

Back to the O. This week, it rounded up this city’s best close-in taco joints on either side of the river. And it didn’t just round up the best tacos, it awarded points for best pastor, best carne asada, and best tortillas. Hungry, right? Maybe hold on for a minute, because the paper also reported that there’s a new ground beef scare coming out of Arizona, with the USDA recalling 6.5 million pounds of ground beef over fears of salmonella contamination. This advisory comes a week after the paper reported that e. coli-contaminated Coloradan ground beef had breached the Oregon state border. Maybe Veg Week can’t come soon enough.

PoMo broke the story that every food writer was chasing this week when it announced that the long-abandoned Wildwood space will soon house a new restaurant and event space called Bar West, courtesy of the folks who brought us the Union/Pine event space over in close-in SE. It also reported that Philadelphia’s Joe Beddia, who just might make this country’s best pizza, will be sharing cooking duties with Lovely Fifty Fifty’s Sarah Minnick for one night only (October 29), so don’t sleep.

Willamette Week got a fun food story when it visited Blazers media day to quiz players about their favorite go-tos. All of this comes on the heels of the Dame Lillard / Bamboo Sushi beef in which the NBA star called out the sustainable sushi joint for not seating him despite the many open tables in the restaurant. Lillard says it was misunderstanding, because he simply swapped out that Bamboo outpost for another one later that night. (Also, if that happens to you, dear diner, here’s a column I wrote about why long waits and open tables sometimes go remarkably hand-in-hand.) The alt-weekly also reported that one of its favorite bagel spots, Bundy’s Bagels, is shuttering its food cart for good.

Speaking of the shutter, Eater reported Jenn Louis’ Ray restaurant has called it a day. The website also reported that Smallwares is serving up brunch at its new N Williams digs; that the Veritable Quandary alumni who are opening their seafood restaurant Normandie in the old Rue space have announced an opening date (November 1); and that Naomi Pomeroy’s Beast just hired NYC “hot shot” chef Julian Calcott.
