Mercury HQ is full of American Vandal fansā€”especially of the Portland-shot second seasonā€”which means a collective whimper just echoed through our offices.

American Vandal has been canceled at Netflix, Variety has learned.

The half-hour mockumentary series launched its second season on the streaming service back in September. An individual with knowledge of the situation said that other platforms have expressed interest in continuing the series.

ā€œAmerican Vandal will not return for a third season,ā€ Netflix said. ā€œWeā€™re very grateful to the creators, writers, cast and crew for bringing their innovative comedy to Netflix, and to the fans and critics who embraced its unique and unconventional humor.ā€ (Via.)

It's 2018, which means that once every 4.6 seconds you're told about a new TV show that is so good and that you have to watch, and with each recommendation, your heart sinks a bit more, because yes, that show does sound really good, but also, there are 24 hours in a day and this is roughly the 264th so good show that you have to watch. We live in a suffocating glut of contentā€”this is not sustainableā€”and no one can be faulted for figuring they'll just get around to watching a show later. Chances are they won't, and that's fine. It is a glut.

BUT. American Vandal really is that good. Maybe it'll get picked up by some other service, or maybe it'll just be remembered as a too-good-for-this-world comedy classic, like Arrested Development before Arrested Development came back and ruined itself. Either way: Before it vanishes into the widening gyre of endless streaming content, watch the now-canceled American Vandal. You'll be glad you did.
