Cohen Chose the Dark Side: Michael Cohen, the former Trump lawyer who pled guilty for buying the silence of two women to protect Donald Trump's presidential election, has been sentenced to three years in prison. Before his sentencing, Cohen apologized to the public and the court, saying his blind loyalty to Trump "led me to choose a path of darkness over light.”

Meanwhile, On the Path of Darkness: Trump responded to the Cohen ruling in a series of tweets, basically blaming Cohen for not knowing better to not break the law on Trump's behalf.

Riding Amazon's Coattails: Apple has announced a major expansion, promising a $1 billion new campus in Austin and other brand-new sites in major cities across the country—including Seattle, which sits a stone's throw away from the Microsoft HQ.

Free Pass for Rapists: A Texas judge offered a plea deal to a former Baylor University student, accused of raping a woman at a frat party, instead of taking the case to trial because, "our jurors aren't ready to blame rapists and not victims when there isn't concrete proof of more than one victim." Jacob Anderson and all rapists who get away with their crimes will never be cured, never change. If anything they will be emboldened by their power over women and their ability to escape justice and punishment." Read her full statement here.

Thank U, Next: Rep. Nancy Pelosi says Dems will vote to limit senior leadership to three terms, meaning she won't be able to remain Speaker of the House in 2022. No one's that sad about it.

Union Power: OHSU officials appear to be backpedaling their opposition to a grad student union.

Defenseless: A report by a nonpartisan nonprofit has concluded that Oregon's public defense system isn't providing its low-income clients the kind of defense they are constitutionally promised. According to the report, defense attorneys are expected to "handle as many cases as possible and to do so as quickly as possible, rather than focusing on their ethical duty of achieving the client’s case-related goals."

Hate in the Halls: School administrators have documented anti-Semitic graffiti at two Southeast Portland schools—Cleveland High School and Lewis Elementary School—within the last month.
