Today, Soul’d Out—the annual Portland music festival highlighting soul, hip-hop, blues, and jazz music—announced the lineup of artists that’ll be coming to various Portland venues April 16-April 21. After hosting artists like Solange, Erykah Badu, Anderson .Paak, and Sza in recent years, this year's draw is looking a bit more modest.

There are some big names, of course, like legendary blues guitarist Buddy Guy, Roy Ayers and hip-hop duo Eric B. and Rakim. But considering this is the festival’s 10th anniversary, the 2019 bill looks somewhat underwhelming. And though I'm told this is just the "initial lineup," for the moment, the bill seems to be lacking in young, Black artists. Perhaps the most random inclusion I see here is Ukrainian folk quartet DakhaBrakha, who are indeed eclectic and awesome—though I’m not sure how (or why) they fit into a festival that, in the past, has focused on soul, jazz, and hip-hop music.

Luckily, the lineup also promises Portland staples like Mel Brown, singer Saeeda Wright, and Dirty Revival. One artist I was absolutely delighted to see included is masked rapper Leikeli47, whose song “Money” is one of the only things I want to relive from the year 2016. So yeah, go see her.
