Jusuf Nurkic, center for the Portland Trail Blazers, suffered a serious injury to his left leg last night, in overtime during a game with the Brooklyn Nets. With the compound fracturing of Nurkic's tibia and fibula, so broke the collective hearts of Rip City. It was a horrible, horrible thing to watch.

Today's news is as good as it can be, all things considered. Nurkic, who is out for the rest of the season, underwent surgery today at Legacy Health, and the NBA released a statement that it was a successful operation.

"While Nurkic is expected to make a full recovery, there is no timetable for his return to basketball activity," the statement read. "His status will be updated as appropriate."

A full recovery is the best possible outcome in this tragic situation. Fortunately, Nurkic suffered no nerve or muscle damage, although anyone who saw the contour of his leg after that devastating landing was surely fearing the worst. It sounds like it will take some time, but Portland's beloved Bosnian beast will make a full comeback. Here's wishing Nurkic a speedy and as-painless-as-possible recovery.
