GOOD MORNING, PORTLAND! When you hear us in the club, you gotta turn the shit up. You gotta turn the shit up. You gotta turn the shit up. LET'S GO TO PRESS.

Because he knows he won't be able to keep his lackeys from testifying before Congress forever, the increasingly desperate Trump has asserted executive privilege over the entire Mueller Report, just when Congress was preparing a vote to hold AG William Barr in contempt. The Dems did NOT appreciate this:

“In the coming days, I expect that Congress will have no choice but to confront the behavior of this lawless administration,” Representative Jerrold Nadler of New York, the committee’s chairman, said late Tuesday. “The committee will also take a hard look at the officials who are enabling this cover-up.”

The longer Trump refuses to be checked by Congress, the closer we get to a true constitutional crisis. From the NYT:

“A president who refuses to respond to congressional oversight is taking the presidency to new levels of danger,” said William P. Marshall, a law professor at the University of North Carolina. “We’re supposed to be in a system of checks and balances, and one of the biggest checks that Congress has over the executive is the power of congressional oversight.”
“Not responding to that is to literally say that you’re above the law and you’re above the Constitution,” he said. “There’s nothing in history that comes even close to that.”

Even staunch anti-impeachment advocate Nancy Pelosi is being swayed by current events, saying that Trump is becoming "self-impeachable."

According to a New York Times investigation into copies of Trump's tax returns from 1985 to 1994, Trump reported losing almost a billion dollars. So does this make him a shit businessman or an A-plus grifter cheating the tax code? YOU DECIDE.

As you know, one of the many reasons Trump got elected was thanks to the hypocritical support of Christian evangelists. Ever wonder why people like Jerry Falwell Jr. jumped on the Trump bandwagon? THIS: "Cohen claimed he helped bury personal photographs for Jerry Falwell Jr. before the evangelical leader backed Trump." (The corruption runs deep, so deep, it puts my butt to sleep.)

Meanwhile, in people who should be president: Candidate Elizabeth Warren has revealed her new plan to combat the opioid crisis, while donating money she once received from an opioid maker to charity.

Because it seems I can't go a single week without writing about another school shooting: Eight students were wounded and one was killed in a Denver school shooting. The suspects are two students who have been taken into custody.

DON'T TAKE AN UBER OR LYFT TODAY: Uber and Lyft drivers across the country are on a 24 hour strike to protest unfair treatment by the companies.

IN MONARCHY NEWS: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have introduced their as yet unnamed new baby son to the world. In response, Trump said, "Huh. 'Monarchy.' I like the ring of that."

IN LOCAL NEWS: The lawsuit against right-wing dickbags Patriot Prayer continues to grow with new additions to the initial claims as well as defendants. Our Alex Zee has the story!

In other dickbag news, Oregon Senate Republicans are continuing to hide instead voting for education funding, delaying the passage of a bill that would tax businesses on sales over $1 million per year. It's almost like they don't want the next generation of voters to be educated!

RELATED AND VERY IMPORTANT: Support the teachers of Oregon today as they walk out of school to protest our state's refusal to properly fund education. The march and rally starts at 11 am today on the Waterfront, and stick with the Mercury for the latest updates.

It's being called the Mile High Massacre after the Denver Nuggets obliterated the Blazers in last night's game, 124-98. So now the question is: Can the Blazers shake it off and avoid playoff elimination?

Now it's time to talk about the WEATHER: Mostly sunny with a high of 81 today, but get ready to touch the 90s on Friday and Saturday!

And finally, presented without comment:
