Sasquatch might have folded up its tents, so to speak, but if you're still thirsty for a woodsy wonderland arts experience, fret not: THING is here. What is THING? THING is an all-new festival experience in Port Townsend, WA blending music, comedy, art, podcasting, dancing, food, and more, into one weekend's worth of entertainment bliss, Aug 24-25. According to the organizers, THING was inspired by the medieval word "ting," which means "an assembly of free people to reduce feuds and avoid social disorder." And that's definitely better than being inspired by The Thing, which is an amazing horror movie but also not an event you'd want to willingly attend if you didn't have to. The couch bit would be incredibly uncomfortable, for example. But in the spirit of "ting," organizers have assembled one hell of a lineup, including De La Soul, Calexico and Iron & Wine, the Violent Femmes, Japanese Breakfast, Natasha Lyonne, The Tobolowsky Files, and many, many more.
