40: A woman riding a motorized scooter was struck by an SUV in Northeast Portland on Monday, and later died in surgery. The SUV driver was issued a citation for an improperly executed right turn, per OPB. This is the 40th person to die in a traffic collision in Portland in 2019.

Aug 17 Update: Two more people were arrested Friday for their involvement with the August 17 Portland protests. That includes a woman who was wrestled to the ground by bike cops after spitting in their general direction.
This Still Happens: The owner of a wedding venue in Mississippi recently told the family of a mixed-race couple that they "don't do gay weddings or mixed race, because of our Christian race — I mean, our Christian beliefs"—and she was caught on video. The owner has since apologized.
