I signed up for a recurring donation just before reading this. The Merc has been my preferred news source in Portland since I moved here 17 years ago. Thanks for all you do.

In exchange can you do a story about people treating service workers like absolute CRAP in this pandemic? (I'm joking - mostly. But I got yelled at 3 times yesterday and I work front desk in a medical office for things entirely out of my control. What's wrong with you, Portland?)

Thanks for being my rock, Mercury.

I came to send a donation and found this article. I made a comment about the author's geographic bigotry and the comment was not posted. No donation now.

It should be obvious to everyone by now that this pandemic is not just a health crisis; it’s also an economic one. In fact while not everyone will get sick, the economic impact is likely to be felt by everyone. And we are just getting started. By the end of next quarter we’re going to see a lot more companies turn furloughs in to layoffs as they realize revenues aren’t going to go back to pre-pandemic levels any time soon. And not just the service industry and blue collar jobs. It will expand in to white collar jobs as well. We’re all in this together. We’ll have to figure it out over time. And it’s going to suck. Be kind to each other. In the meantime I’ll throw the Merc a couple of bucks for all the laughs and entertainment you’ve provided over the years.
