A moratorium on eviction is pointless without rent assistance. Landlords are receiving financial assistance from state and federal governments. Renters are not receiving federal assistance (state assistance depends on the state). Landlords getting paid today should have to forgive the rent on those who can't pay 9 or 12 or 24 months of back rent when the moratorium is lifted.

And beyond that, what exactly is going to happen when tens of millions or hundreds of millions of people in this country are forced out of their homes? People complain endlessly and vilify the homeless already. It's one of Portland's favorite pastimes.

Do people even comprehend what it is going to be like when a third of the population of this country (or more, even) are literally forced to out in the streets? We are poised to become worse than the slums of Kolkata (formerly Calcutta).

Seriously, it is time to stop fucking around and collect the TRILLIONS in taxes corporations and the billionaires should be paying and make sure we do not end up like a third world country worse than the one we have already been exposed to be.
