Nice try at minimizing the very real increase in the City of Portland's homicide rate by reaching back to the "old" record and using the rise in population to muddy the waters to suit your narrative. Yes, Portland's population has increased greatly since the last record was set, but this doesn't change the fact that in Portland, homicides were up from six in the first five months of 2020 to 38 in the first five months of 2021, according to city police data, a more than 530% increase. This has been widely reported in reputable news sources such as the NYT and Washington Post, not some fringe right wing rag. Minimizing the issue does absolutely nothing positive for the city. Time to lay off the dogma and try fact based reporting.
