I dispute the idea of "driverless" car tech as nonsense. The driver attention to road conditions and ability to maneuver is a safety device that should NOT be relegated to AV control. What might work with AV tech is "Speed Limit" devices that allow drivers to reach but not exceed the limit, nor unsafely through busy intersections which is estimated at 5mph below the posted limit though some of us race through busy intersections like idiots. Anyway, 'speed limit' at Level 3 AV is supportable, but "driverless" is nonsense. Elon Musk's Tesla is the MOST over-rated EV on the road!

I doubt much about pedestrian safety will improve until roads and streets are designed more in accordance with the psychology of drivers. They must be designed to communicate their safe speeds and priorities for various modes, basically traffic calming. Here's a short summary: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tGOBOw9s-QM

On why pedestrian safety problems are fairly unique to North America: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra_0DgnJ1uQ
