THURSDAY 12/14

Loggernaut Reading Series
The last Loggernaut literary evening of '06 takes the idea of "arrival" as its central focus, with fiction and poetry readings from three authors. Josh Emmon wrote the critically acclaimed novel The Loss of Leon Mead and teaches out at Whitman College; Frayn Masters is a damn cool human, a member of Haiku Inferno and author of Pants All Night; and Joshua Marie Wilkinson, who lives in Denver, has published two book-length poems, which I find wildly admirable and awesome. Kinda like the whole Loggernaut thing. Mississippi Studios, 3939 N Mississippi, 288-3895, 7:30 pm, $5 recommended

Everyone I Know Lives on Roads
Chiasmus Press' latest book, Everyone I Know Lives on Roads by Trevor Dodge, "examines the accident scene of celebrity, fate, and language, measuring the skidmarks for traces of our oedipal selves and chalking out the metaphoric places where these three paths converge." Just like the Portland Mercury! Reading Frenzy, 921 SW Oak, 274-1449, 7 pm

MONDAY 12/18

Sally Cohn
The press release for this event says that Portland's lesbian community "has been after Sally Cohn forever to write her memoirs." After a thumbnail sketch of her history of activism, the press release also says that an entire chapter is devoted to her "handwhistling-related activities." I really hope this is lesbian lingo for something more interesting than what it sounds like. In Other Words, 8 NE Killingsworth, 232-6003, 7 pm
