THURSDAY 7/20

Northwest Edge III: The End of Reality
Portland's Chiasmus Press prides itself on printing "the most innovative emerging authors," and their commitment to "crossing the literary with the visual." Tonight they're launching their third anthology, northwest edge: the end of reality, which features a ton of Northwest authors, including Zoe Trope, Tiffany Lee Brown, and Kevin Sampsell, as well as a DVD of videos from local filmmakers. Tonight's party will have booze, food, readings, music, etc. etc. etc. etc. Disjecta, 230 E Burnside, , 8 pm-1 am, $5

Fields That Dream: A Journey to the Roots of Our Food
Another book about where our food comes from. There's obviously a big audience for this kind of book right now, but how long will it take until readers tire of reading variation upon variation of the same (very relevant and pressing) argument? Half Life
It would take a real dolt to screw up a book about a world where Siamese twins are as common as redheads or southpaws, wherein one conjoined twin gets sick of dragging the other around and decides to have her lopped off. I don't think author Shelley Jackson's a dolt by any stretch, so I'm betting this is going to be a good one. Powell's City of Books, 1005 W Burnside, 228-4651, 7:30 pm, free
