My heart truely goes out to bar workers everywhere. Atleast Plan`B doesn't fuck anyone over.
2
I'm approving this 'I, Anonymous.' It does what it's supposed to do, and it makes a good point.
3
You forgot the "...or else I will ____" part of the threat. After all that rhetoric, what will you do if they still don't give you a free holiday party? Go to college?
4
Trying doing this exact same job in a state without minimum wage laws like Alabama, where you actually DO need tips to survive. $2.25 an hour and ZERO benefits.

Perspective.
5
Must suck to be able to make hundreds of dollars in tips sometimes in one night tax-free, get food stamps each month that pay for your groceries, and qualify for financial aid. I date a 3 day a week bartender, I work in software about 60 hours + a week. She has a whole shit ton more spending cash than I do, a stocked pantry, and can go to school without putting herself in the poorhouse. Poor you. Quit bitching.
6
No, the 'I, Anonymous' column *is* for bitching, remember? And I'm glad you hooked up with a bartender who is doing very well for herself, but that's hardly the case for the majority.
7
@ ZeRedHead...

You're dating someone who makes [apparently] alot of money & [seemingly] keeps you well-fed. YOU yourself have a full-time job that gives you lots of over-time. What the Hell are YOU bitching about?

8
disastronaut and ZeRedHead, I feel so bad for you two, there must be very little compassion in your worlds. It's like you're yelling at a kid with a broken toy to stop crying. Who has taught you to assume that others are unreasonable when they complain? Are you really so resigned to never having enough, to never being comfortable? ZeRedHead, your girlfriend is good at what she does. Is that why you hate her?

Fuck Alabama and Mississippi wages, non union shit holes both! Fuck whiney programmers too. I have sympathy for my service industry brothers and sisters. This person works in a dive bar how much do you think wingnuts and crackheads tip? If you're not a conventionally pretty women in a moderately upscale place then you probably don't roll out with a pimp wad of tips!

Once when I went to Singapore on business I frequented a bar there and made friends with the bartender, in part by tipping rather generously on the amex. He started giving me free drinks and I had to explain to him that work was paying and that if he gave them to me for free I couldn't tip him as much. There was a little bit of a language barrier but he caught on and my free drink ride was over. A couple days later though he came over to me after the boss lady had gone home. He looked at me and said, "your work pays for your drinks, really?" I said, "yeah they really do..." He reached down under the bar and pulled out a beer, slammed it, and looked at me and said, "my work pays for my drinks too, but they don't know." Then he got a big smile on his face. So to all you people who work in bars and feel like you are getting screwed over, you could just take your holiday party year round by sampling the wares...quality control right?

Bartending rules. I love my boss.
12
Shift beers should be a written law.
13
I love that story, econoline.

Cry me a river and build me a bridge. Maybe if you weren't such a whiner you could get a better bartending job, and not be so broke and... whiny.

My mom raised me and my sister alone, bartending in dive bars. We didn't have a ton of money, but we always had everything we needed. A good night, even in a dive, would bring $40-70 a night in tips alone (the min wage was about half of ours). Because she was good, and fast, and cheerful and fun, and not a big whiny bitch.

hint hint
15
@ mollymaverick...

And i suppose ALL bar-tending jobs/situations are exactly the same as what your mom experienced, according to you, eh?

I suppose EVERYONE who has the audacity to complain about working for a shitty employer is just being a "whinny bitch" according to you, eh?
16
Zeredhead,

So, hundreds a night is FAR from the norm, pal. That's like assuming that all programmers make 120k a year. Is that true? I know a guy that does, so it must apply to everyone, right?

Tax free? Most places tax you for all CC tips and strongly encourage cash claims. If you aren't paying taxes on the tips, it's called tax evasion.

Food stamps? I have NEVER met a fellow server/bartender that received food stamps? Are you serious with this shit? Why must people assume that others are getting handed everything? Is it because you are insecure and want to feel like you are "earning your keep"?

Do you constantly deal with drunks, selfish assholes like yourself, never get to take breaks, work weekends til 3am while your friends are being drunk and selfish assholes, not being able to go to bed until 5 or 6 because you can't get your brain to shut off because you have to be "on" for every minute of your shift (unlike your job where quite a bit of your "work" time is spent on reddit and apparently, looking at the time on your post, reading and commenting on the Mercury), and have to pay for Health Care out of your own pocket? I work/have worked 60+ hour weeks in Marketing/Teaching/Software and would take those jobs ANY DAY over serving 35 hours a week. If you say it's a choice, for many it isn't. It's a fucked up economy. Until very recently I was sitting on a Grad degree working for a bullshit bar. It wasn't by choice. My situation is not uncommon.

I bet YOU have a company party. This person wasn't asking for his job to change, just a fucking free drink. Have some perspective and piss off, fuck hole. I hope your girlfriend is banging the busboy. He probably bitches less than you.
17
@bucknroses - So...what are you going to DO about it? No one cares that your job sucks. There is no "my job is worse than yours" contest that you can win, here. Go get a better one. What's stopping you?
18
HERRRP DERRRRRP

Go get anuvver jerb in the worst recession in recent history with unemployment at an all time high, BRILLIANT SOLUTION!!

Sounds like someone has a mcjob tho...condolences.

@Reymont

People that assume that you can always DO something about your life situation make me sick. I love my job (I'm a teacher), but I don't assume that anyone in the industry can just get another job like I was fortunate enough to do. If you read my post, you would have seen the part about it not being a choice for many people. Sometimes people are stuck with a job because it's better than being homeless. Your lack of perspective is scary. Like republican scary.

@5
Your girlfriends pantry is always full because she sucks cock for groceries, So stop hating on her. You too, could make a little extra cash on the side, sucking cock. you sound like a real bitch, so you are probably pretty good at it, might even be able to keep the fridge full too.

Please wait...
