Back in my waitressing days in NYC, I worked at a quite upscale restaurant which he patronized from time to time. Even then he was creepy and senile--and a crappy tipper! Generally, he'd come in with his aging trophy wife (who was still convinced she "had it" and sought validation of this from everyone, including my straight female self) and sit there, vapid and clearly stoned on (I'll assume) prescription drugs. Given his problem solving skills noted above, perhaps his wife was simply bitchy from one too many spankings.
