Dan, you've been lying about your age since I began reading you, I don't know, a decade ago. I think the first time I noticed was back when Salon was a big deal and had a writer devoted to writing about alt-weeklies. What's the deal? Is it an ongoing joke? If so, it's not a very funny one. Maybe you should apply that blunt honesty to yourself.

Hey Tootie,
I'm guessing that Dan is being a little tongue in cheek what with that being one of my favorite things about him and all. I couldn't also help but notice a slight tinge of resentment in your comment. What good is blunt honesty without a healthy sense of humor and the ability to laugh at oneself? Maybe you should try it.

Thanks for reminding me of the lighter side of life, Carrots! (Have you seen Superbad? Omigah, sooo funny!) How mirth ties in w/ Dan's apparent inability to accept the miracle of aging, I have no idea. Maybe he is being tongue-in-cheek, but laughing at himself? Mmm, don't think so. In the past when he's "kidded" about his age in interviews, he doesn't seem to make it clear that he's being a hysterical joker. Didn't he fess up in a column a while back that he lied about his age. BTW, the other day, when this column first ran, Wikipedia changed his birth year to '74; now it's back to '64 and the article opens with a line about the ongoing joke. You know, the super-funny(!) one about his age not being what it is.

Now that we have comments here, is anyone else like me and just read the questions on Savage love, but pretty much ignore Dan's "advice?"

Please wait...
