The "Remember When?" nostalgia stories are really popular these days, as evidenced by the number of local newspapers across the country that feature them. Ordinary people are given so little to feel good about in our time, and the horizon offers scant hope for our lives to improve. And since we no longer manufacture anything we're basically doing one another's laundry. It's why the most popular programs on the dying medium of television deal with people rebuilding barns and repurposing antiquated machines. We've become enchanted by people actually producing things.
