British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has announced his willingness to resign today, making way for the selection of a new Labour Party leader by September. The move is seen by almost everyone as Brown's attempt to woo the Liberal Democrats, after that party's weekend talks with the Conservative party over a coalition have failed to yield fruit. The Conservatives have offered to take parliamentary reform to the voters, but the Liberals want it without a referendum, and it's thought that Brown's departure was a key to sweeten Labour's pot.
In more important news, Sky News political editor Adam Boulton blew up on live television at former Labour spin-master Alistair Campbell. Campbell took the fall over Britain's cooked-up "intelligence dossier," which this country used as justification for going to war with Iraq. So he's hardly a nice guy. He's actually the basis for the character Malcolm Tucker, in the movie In The Loop. But you've got to give him credit for getting Boulton riled up with the innocent-enough sounding statement, "you're probably upset because David Cameron's not Prime Minister." Of course, the poor sleep-deprived news guy falls right into his trap:
Where to go for more? Well...read Marina Hyde if you read anyone. She's brilliant. Let's hope this all drags on for a few more days...
