Nicholas von Hoffman -who worked for Alinsky, before moving on to journalism- did a fantastic bio on Saul. Y'all oughta read it, if anything so you can actually answer the question, "So what exactly *is* a community organizer, anyway?" next time it comes up.
The important thing to understand is that Saul Alinsky means much more today to the right wing than he does to the left. Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" is supposedly the source for every sentence Obama speaks. His name signifies radical politics, underhanded tactics, deception and empowering poor (read: black) people. You say "Alinsky" to mean that someone is anti-white in the same way you say "Farrakhan" to mean that someone is an anti-semite.
This crap has been simmering on right-wing blogs and low-rent wingnut welfare operations (foundations established by rich conservative assholes like Richard Mellon Scaife that guarantee employment to anyone willing to spout nothing but right-wing nonsense all day) since about 2006.
Please wait...
and remember to be decent to everyone all of the time.
