Obie Hill
From Reflections Bookstore
330 N Killingsworth
Next Saturday at 6 pm, Reflections hosts revolutionary activist and former black panther Billy X, who brings with him a stunning photo installation documenting the Panthers, their gatherings, and pieces of the political party's history. In order to prepare for this event, Obie recommends the following black history-related reading. - The Black Panther Party Reconsidered by Charles E. Jones: "Jones does a great job of interviewing Panthers throughout the nation."
- Assata: An Autobiography, by Assata Shakur: "This is the autobiography of a political prisoner who escaped and now lives in Cuba, in exile."
- Blood in My Eye, by George L. Jackson: "The book is all stuff he wrote while in prison. The book gets you into the history of Black Panthers and other political prisoners."
- In Defense of Mumia, by S.E. Anderson and Tony Medina: "Mumia is another political prisoner and the book is filled with people writing about the political justice system."
