[UPDATE: This contest is closed and the winner has been notified. For the correct way to pronounce "Balmorhea," check out the band's official bio.]

Texas sound architects Balmorhea are coming to Mississippi Studios on Thursday, August 8, cramming their widescreen sound landscapes inside of a hot rock club. This band is capable of stunning gorgeousness on the regular so, naturally, you'll want to see them. Good news! We're giving away a pair of tickets to next week's show. To enter, send an email to contest at portlandmercury dot com with the correct pronunciation of the band's name in the subject line. (Don't worry—even if you're new to the band, you should be able to find this online without too much trouble. A helpful hint: this guy's wrong.) Please include your first and last name in the email. We'll select a winner at random from the correct responses and send him or her off to the show!

This contest closes Monday at 5 pm. In the meantime, check out this astounding video for Balmorhea's "Pyrakantha," from their latest album Stranger. Shot at twilight over 42 days, it shows Danny Garcia skating around town as the sun sets. I don't think I've never seen modern-day LA look so beautiful.
