If you're like me, you probably don't remember exactly when you first started using Discogs—to research albums and track names that Allmusic didn't list, or to find info about that rare Bowie B-side, or to find out just what the hell is supposed to be on the front cover of S.F. Sorrow. As seasoned vinyl spinners know, of course, Discogs is much more than an exhaustive database of record releases, it's also a place to score and sell all kinds of vinyl for and from collectors.

Discogs has been around since the turn of the millennium, started by Intel software engineer Kevin Lewandowski right here in Portland. And now, Discogs is hosting its first-ever event, a record fair and DJ showcase at the White Owl Social Club on Saturday, August 23. Crate Diggers Portland is co-hosted by media/event company Pattern Integrity and LA's Grimy! Records and will feature exclusive early 11 am entry for those who purchase the $79 VIP tickets. Ordinary joes can enter at noon (I can't figure out how much regular admission is—free, possibly? yes, it's free!), and there are DJs spinning all day long:

11:30-12:00 DJ Sacrilicious
12:00-12:45 Ryan Organ
12:45-1:30 Tom Mitchell
1:30-2:15 Cee White
2:15-3:00 Survival Skills
3:00-3:45 Boogie Nite
3:45-4:30 DJ Roane
4:30-5:15 Christian Science
5:15-6:00 Richie Staxx
6:00-7:00 Pippin
7:00-7:30 DJ Kez
7:30-8:00 Special guest
But best of all is the free afterparty, which goes from 8 pm to 2 am and includes DJ sets by Dâm Funk, Zernell Gillie, JT Donaldson, and Supreme La Rock. Check out Crate Diggers Portland's Facebook page for more info.
