Weird Al Yankovic and Jared Mees & The Grown Children

Roseland (map) Northwest
Tue., Aug. 3, 8 p.m. 2010 All Ages

There are two camps of "Weird Al" Yankovic fans: those who loved him in middle school and then got over him, and the rest of us who just never got over him. In either case, the king of pop parody graces PDX tonight, with his songs, his characters, and his locks. His curly, curly locks. NOAH DUNHAM

I realized pretty early in life that I was going to grow up more funny than tough, and my lone chance at being cool was to make people laugh. So I wore out my "Smells Like Nirvana" cassingle just as fast as my "Teen Spirit" one—and, I'll admit, "Amish Paradise" twice as fast as "Gangsta's Paradise"and entrusted my coolness to a mustachioed man with an accordion. Now, all these years later, my inner nerd and I are extremely happy to say "Weird Al" Yankovic is still relevant—he gets paid to lampoon pop stars for new generations of geeks and continues to get laughs from his older, albeit much more baked, original fanbase as Uncle Muscles on Tim and Eric's Awesome Show.
