Why is the author of the article obsessed with race and color of people? Is this article for a kindergarter class?

Fake news.

1."Trump hasnt accomplished anything"
He Canceled TPP.
Read Chomsky The Clinton Vision on NAFTA: The rich get richer.

2. "Trump brags of sexual assault"
Trump said when youre a celebrity they LET you grab their pussy. That is not assault. Issue a retraction for your false story.

3. "Trump made fun of hadicapped"
Trump makes fun of EVERYBODY, didnt know the guy was hadicapped, and usedc the same hand gestures he ALWAYS uses when making fun of people.

4.Assault on the free press
WHERE?? Youre perfectly able to write anything you want about Trump including blatent lies like your article.
Trump can ban anyone he wants from the press room, they are still free to write.
Are you saying there is not a 100% assault by the msm on Trump.
Furthermore, if somebody were to suddenly become conservative and syart writing pro Trump articles for the crap mercury what do you think would happen?

The list goes on, get a clue. Dont be a tool for George Soros. Do some research, stop parroting the main streem news.

"After citing divorce rates and the number of mothers having babies out of wedlock, Parker then lamented how 500,000 orphans are currently languishing in the foster system—yet she failed to see the irony in bemoaning half a million uncared-for orphans, while at the same time condemning family planning."

I'm pro-choice, and this last sentence seems intentionally dishonest, unless you're trying to make family planning equal abortion; Like how some people say affordable instead of subsidized or health care instead of insurance. The quotes you provided seemed to demonstrate that the speaker was very much in favor of planned pregnancy and don't mention birth control at all.

Hello Portland Mercury,

I don’t think the Legal Department of the Portland Mercury is where this email should be directed. But, none of the other “Contact Us” seemed more appropriate. Please forward this email to where my comments need to be received. Thank you!

I am the “Susan Blevins” quoted in the “Among the Deplorables” article recently published. I now know how it feels to be quoted out of context. I believe my statements were edited to give a very limited view of what I said, of which I think was much more important than my Rush Limbaugh comments. (I know comments need to be edited and not every comment can be published.) I spoke of being a person who was socially liberal and not religious and of wishing Republicans would drop any mention of religion. I said that none of my conservative friends were religious, misogynist, anti-gay or racist - they are solely fiscal conservatives. I think those statements would have been much more informational and express an opinion which could bring us more together in thought and policy. Instead, he chose to publish my comments on Rush Limbaugh. This just adds to his biased piece. I was sickened by how I was portrayed in the article. Most of what I said would show more common ground with many liberals. Why not publish those words? I know, they would not reinforce the bias in his piece.

I think the article was well-written, but written with a blatant bias. I thought Santi was a nice, young man. He may have told me and Eli that he was using a recorder, but neither of us recall that we were told we would be recorded. We both wondered why he was not really taking notes. He had a very small notepad, and wrote down very little. Eli and I both thought Shanti wasn’t taking notes because he was not finding the hatred he had hoped to find and document in the audience.

In his article, he mentioned that a person was not curious about him. I thought journalists were there to interview, not to be interviewed. I was very curious about him and his background and thoughts. I would have loved to have taken him for a that sorely needed drink - and to get to know him better, and he me. (Give him my email, if you would like. I’ll buy.) We all need to be discussing issues more with each other.

Like I said, I now know what it’s like to be quoted out of context. I am sickened by how I was portrayed in this article. I had kept my eye on the Mercury for the last few weeks and did not see an article on the event. I thought nothing was being published because Santi did not find what he was looking for his piece. This afternoon, a salesperson who calls on my business confronted me because he saw the article with my quotes and my name. He let me know that he was quite shocked and appalled at my comments. It was not a good encounter. I tried to explain I was quoted out of context. He walked away, laughing.

I now know not to give interviews. (This was my first.) These days, interviews will almost always be edited to serve the agenda of the journalist. Several of my opinion pieces have been published (and not edited) in local newspapers with great support from a very diverse group of Portland citizens.

Thank you for the forum to express my comments.

Please wait...

and remember to be decent to everyone
all of the time.
