It's always a treat to spend some time (and sometimes money!) there. It's like a Museum, where you can bring the treasures home.

In addition to the amazing high-end stock, he's got great "Bargain bins" where you can find awesome treats for a few dollars.
I'd also like to mention that a woman named Brenda has a space in the shop, where she sells very nice *new* plumbing fixtures that fit nicely into old houses.

Thanks for this story -- I've been to Hippo, Rejuvenation, North Portland Salvage, and Aurora Mills looking for hardware and construction materials, I'm delighted to learn that there is yet another salvage company in this city.

Portlanders benefit greatly from entrepreneurs like Bret -- we can easily restore old homes to their historic appearance, we save money, and we consume less "made in X" junk from big-box home centers. To top it off, we get a city filled with beautifully restored homes to put smiles on our faces.

If anyone is doing work on their home, they would be well-advised to stop by Bret's shop or one of the other fine salvage shops before going out to the big box stores. You'll be rewarded with a fatter pocketbook and a classier house.

Thanks, Ted Buehler

Old Portland Hardware is truly a gem of architectural salvage. The hardware and found objects are to drool over, or at least they are for me. I have used my finds on client projects and have taken some home. The leaded glass doors upstairs are delicious and in beautiful condition. It is my answer to comfort food. If you love the historical flavor of old Portland homes, then this is a must-see when you are looking for architectural adventure. I have them listed at http://www.tychondevelopment.com/resources along with other great resources for the home. You have to stop in frequently so you don't miss any of the new finds.
