Am I the one who thought Toy Story 3 was a great, heartfelt short film padded out by an hour or more of video game "get out of this jam, now get out of this jam" nonsense? I adore 1 and 2, and I weep at Monsters, Inc. every time. Buy TS3 seemed like Pixar found a fantastic idea they didn't know how to execute.
My baby's three favorite films of 2010 were I Am Love, Winter's Bone, and Scott Pilgrim vs the World. If you want to know why, you can ask her yourself.
Black Swan. Actual title should have been "Black Shit", this could have been a movie of the week, or rather "weak". Marjorie, Jamie, you need to see more films, cuz that should be on the bottom ten list...
I thought it was an okay year for cinema in Portland, mostly because of a lot of great European 2009 cinema washing up late on our distribution shore. Haneke's White Ribbon was hands down the winner for me, followed by Clair Denis' White Material. On-year for Sophia Coppola, Roman Polanski & the Coen brothers, off-year for Woody Allen & Martin Scorsese. Fincher is still a pedestrian director, Nolan still a hack, still don't know what the hell Aronofsky is, still not curious enough to find out. Au revoir to Jacques Rivette with his bittersweet and whisper-thin Around a Small Mountain.
Kudos to the French for getting back to bread-and-butter (pain et beurre?) genre fare in a mean way. The twin Mesrine flicks and Audiard's A Prophet were winners. Same to Ben Affleck (who knew?) for scoring with a back-to-basics heist film, The Town. A clear loser in this category was the misfired noir-suspense The Square, which was too cute for its own good.
A lot of stuff I still haven't seen -- Certified Copy, Taymor's Tempest, Breillat's Bluebeard, which I overlooked at the International Film Festival. Somehow dodged I Am Love, which looked more fun in concept than in practice. Also missed out on Mother. In short, there were a lot of interesting things if you were looking.
Hi, my name is Scott and I am 'campaigning' for my new movie project. I am a local homeless success story and my first movie was featured in The Oregonian, Streetroots, and is now on the shelves of the Multnomah County Library ! My next movie will bring hope and great things into the lives of four homeless folks and many people in PDX and I need your help. Please visit my upcoming project page on Kickstarter. You may also watch my first movie on my website. Seeking backers, and the rewards are great !

Feel free to tell others about this also.
