Another great review from EH. My favorite part, though, was incidental: "...Sideways, a movie that nobody except your mom thought was as good as it was made out to be." Thank you! I thought I was the only one!
I don't think anyone thought Sideways was more than the quirky well written melo drama that it was. It made wine interesting and had great performances from the 2 male leads. While I haven't seen The Descendants yet, there's enough praise in this review and plenty of others to warrant a viewing. While I appreciate EH's ability to take a more critical approach to reviewing films that most others don't, I also sometimes feel he casually dismisses films in the same way someone might glance through a magazine and put it down without really absorbing the substance within. For a definitive review of this film and others, check out Peter Travers. Very rarely has he steered me in the wrong direction.
