Wow, you just whiffed on this review, which may be the wrongest one ever to run in the PM! Were you stoned during the screening?

This movie not only ruins Holmes and all the other characters, but does so so completely that you have to wonder why they dare call it a Sherlock Holmes movie. Obviously, they just found the idea of "Lethal Weapon 1885" more marketable under that banner.

Having totally, utterly wrecked the characters -- Holmes afraid of horses and unable to pronounce the word "heinous"; imperial army officer Watson ignorant of dancing, quick to hotly resent Holmes, and generally talking like a guest on Oprah; Mycroft a boisterous nudist rather than a member of the Diogenes Club -- there is simply no possibility of any of the kind of charming interplay you somehow perceived. Instead, it's just three canned script positions being moved about to set up the next phony, slo-mo action scene.

As for the plot, it's both canned and thin as water, as well as repeatedly "explained" by the wooden narration of the "characters," rather than moved by the drama on the screen.

Ptooey on this movie and the star you give it.

Please wait...
