How exactly was Andrew Garfield an improvement? He was way more emo and unlikable than McGuire's Spiderman. Also if you say its because you didn't like his face, which is why a lot of people don't like him as SP, then you fail at life with how superficial and unfair you are. If you didn't like his performance fine, but not liking it because you just don't like how the actor looks is really stupid and immature.
