I agree with all this. It had some cool parts, but quite a few "dutiful" parts.
The conflict within the mountain felt a little strained to me (thorin going nuts), mostly because it was the ONLY conflict. In the book, the main conflict for the dwarves is that they're freaking hungry. When we came out the theatre, the first thing my friends said was, "how were they eating in there?" For the movie to be convincing, I think it's best to keep some of the realistic details like that.
Also, it looked like Dain was completely CGI, and his voice, and the things he said, sounded just like Fat Bastard.
