Last year, the Portland Mercury introduced Portlanders to Veg Week—a week full of amazing vegan entrées at a slew of the city’s best restaurants. Even better? For Veg Week, those inventive, delicious entrées were half-price!

You loved it. So we’re doing it again. From October 15-20, Portlanders can take full advantage of all the ethical, physical, and environmental benefits of a healthy diet... and do so on the cheap. Every dish featured for Veg Week is 100 percent vegan... and only 50 percent of its usual price!

Before you tuck in to what’s one of the best culinary weeks of the year, a few things to keep in mind:

Tip, and tip well.

Veg Week is brought to you by a ton of hard-working Portlanders who care about the food they make and the planet they live on—and besides, you’re getting a great deal! Show them some love.

Be patient.

You might’ve noticed, but a few people in Portland are vegetarian or vegan. Which means there’ll be lines at some restaurants during Veg Week. We promise, it’ll be worth it.

Drink (and eat) up.

During Veg Week, participating restaurants don’t only have their half-price entrées—they’ve also got a bunch of other fantastic dishes and drinks, many of which are also vegan or vegetarian! So take advantage!

Grand Army Tavern’s “Sweet and Sour Roasted Carrots”

What’s in it: Carrots, quinoa, sunflower seeds, pickles, and herbs

After the carrots have been cooked in the liquid, they are quickly roasted in olive oil. The salad is tossed with toasted sunflower seeds, pickled onions and garlic, and a lot of herbs.”

La Panza Cafe’s “Calabacita Enchilada”

What’s in it: Corn tortilla, squash, zuchinni, corn relish, New Mexican red chile, pinto beans, and posole
What they say: “New Mexican Calabacitas (‘calabacitas’ is Spanish for ‘squash’) is a favorite side dishe to serve along with our New Mexican cuisine. This dish is a perfect combination of yellow squash, Mexican squash, zucchini, fresh sweet corn, spicy chile, onions and herbs. Calabacitas is a traditional late summer/early fall New Mexican dish.
