From a native Minnesotan, doncha know, I can tell you with authority that the Extremely Moist Lucille (yes, we are literate) originated at Matt's Tavern on Cedar Avenue in Minneapolis, though better versions are available elsewhere in town. As for other aspects of the Gopher State, it's kind of like a bigger, more polite Portland ... until you're out of the room, and then, boy howdy, do we talk shit about you! Great state, though.

veggie fed? where do they get their beef? Or is this like "grain-fed" and its all corn?

SmutLust, Thanks for asking. Here's the scoop on the vegetarian diet employed by the co-op of ranchers from whom we source our beef:

For the first 14-18 months of the animal’s life they are on native range grasses, seeded pastures and hay to assure a year around supply. Some ranches use winter growing lots where the cattle are fed a high roughage ration based on silages and hay before they come to the feedlot. They spend an average of three months at a gathering feedlot on a diet of potatoes, grain, and hay.

Country Natural Beef has been able to reduce the typical grain usage of 80% corn by combining corn, distiller's grain (a byproduct of ethanol) and sunflower seed screening for 32% of the feed. To complete the ration, they are fed about 60% cooked potato, 5% hay and 3% supplements and minerals.

@ Lucys Thanks for the info.

Do these cattle get shot in the head or overdosed on heroin at the moment of slaughter.I think a jolt of china white followed by a belly rub and poetry read would be very humane.

I am from Minneapolis and I still think about that burger...basket of fries and a can of beer (yep...cans only there)...Matt's bar was the only place I went for the original "Jucy Lucy". Not having had a Jucy Lucy since moving here a year ago...I will be trying to find this lot and get one of these delicious cheese filled burgers of goodness.

Please wait...
