Low Brow Lounge, 1036 NW Hoyt, 226-0200, daily 5-7 pm, $1 off booze

The Low Brow is a little unpretentious place in the middle of the pretentious Pearl that serves some mild-mannered, well-respected tater tots. Black lights, loud music, smoke, and a kind of Winchester Mystery House architecture cause a good deal of disorientation when mixed with stiff drinks. It's hard to leave when you can't find the door.

Lucky Devil Lounge, 633 SE Powell, 206-7350, daily 11 am-7 pm, $3.50 wells, $1 off draft beer, cheap food

The newest strip joint to occupy the building on the eastside of the Ross Island Bridge. Maybe we can hold out some hope that it'll stick around, considering the owners already manage a nude empire that includes Devils Point. Deck out back, dancers in front, booze, and cards. Really, you can't go wrong.

Lucky Inn, 440 NE 28th, 233-6937, Mon-Fri 5-7 pm, $2 domestics, $1.50 PBR, $2.50 wells

The Lucky is a great working-class holdout at the end of ever-burgeoning NE 28th. Motorcycles are commonly parked on the sidewalk, the ceilings are high, the air is smoky, and the bartenders are sweet. It's refreshing to not have to match your lo-fi kicks to your lo-fi ironic T-shirt just to have a shot and a beer.

Lucky Labrador Brew Pub, 915 SE Hawthorne, 236-3555, Mon all day, $1 off all beer, $9.75 regular pitchers, $10.50 organic & nitro pitchers

I imagine this is the place people go when they say they need to see a man about a dog. Big outdoor area for humans and pooches alike. Great beer made onsite, plus pub grub. The cavernous barn aesthetic of the place can cause it to get a bit noisy. But if it's too loud, you're too old. Or too sober.
