the only reason people are being told to move them / tear them down is because they built them illegally in the first place. A cheap permit filed with the county and a post-construction inspection are very easy steps to mitigate the burden of losing your tiny house.

As for the loop-hole, logic goes as such: people with money will pay when fined. Same reason joe-schmoe on the max will get a ticket for expired fare, but mr. homeless just gets kicked off. It's my guess (that's all I have anyways) that the money made on enforcing the codes contributes to the money that is expended for porta cans, debris removal, etc for the campers.

As for game plan: isn't one. This city only thinks as far as the next city hall protest.

Money.

If you build a tiny home, you are not homeless. You are working to provide shelter for yourself and/or your family. If you are being a good and decent neighbor then no one has the right to judge you or fuck with you.

"If you build a tiny home, you are not homeless"- What?

"You are working to provide shelter for yourself and/or your family"- There are no families at Hazelnut Grove. Did you listen to that Think Out Loud story? They interviewed 5 people, and 4 out of the 5 admitted to choosing the homeless lifestyle.

"If you are being a decent neighbor… blah, blah, blah"- What are you talking about, you hippie? I had a friend who was building a tiny house in their backyard and some old bitty reported him. The city forced them, under the threat of fines, to remove it. I wish I would have read your comment then, I could have told my friend tell the city:

"Like, hey man, no one has the right to, like judge or fuck with me, cuz I'm, like, a decent human being or whatever."

City: "Yeah, there's no exemption in the code for being a hippie."

"But, like, see if you can dig this man: I have a right, like under the Constitution to, like, build whatever I want on my land."

"Um… if you look online under City of Portland Code, you'll see that you do not, in fact, have a right to build a house, whether it be tiny or full scale, without a permit."

"But I'm a decent human being"

"Jesus. Are your parents home so I can speak with an actual adult?"

"Wha?"
